Inlays / Onlays



Following your first appointment, a temporary is usually placed to protect your tooth while a custom restoration is made. Your final restoration will be shaped and shaded better than the temporary to match your teeth in both color and function.

  1. Do not eat or chew on the tooth while the temporary is in place. The walls of the tooth and may fracture upon biting.
  2. Do not floss around the tooth that is being worked on.
  3. Do not brush the area and the tooth well.
  4. If you experience any sensitivity to biting, cold and especially hot, call Dr. Grafman right away.
  5. If the temporary falls out, please call us immediately to have it replaced.


  1. You may chew, brush, floss and treat the tooth as any other tooth.
  2. Sensitivity, especially to cold, is common for a few days following a restoration. Usually, the deeper the cavity, the more sensitive the tooth may be. If you have discomfort to biting or sensitivity to cold for more than a few days, please call Dr. Grafman.
  3. If the comfort gets worse in the several days after the onlays was bonded. Please call our office. DO NOT WAIT FOR IT TO GO AWAY.
  4. The gum tissue could have been irritated during the procedure and may be sore for a few days together with the injection site.
  5. The life of your onlay restoration is directly related to how well you clean and care for it.
