Following your first appointment, a temporary inlay/onlay is usually placed to protect your tooth while a custom restoration is made. Your final restoration will be shaped and shaded better than the temporary to match your teeth in both color and function.
● Do not eat or chew on the tooth while the temporary is in place. The walls of the tooth may fracture upon biting.
● Do not floss around the tooth that is being worked on.
● Do not brush the area and the tooth well to avoid damaging the tooth.
● If you experience any sensitivity to biting, cold, and especially hot items, call Dr. Grafman right away.
● If the temporary falls out, please call us immediately to have it replaced.
Restoration Care
● You may chew, brush, floss, and treat the tooth as any other tooth.
● Sensitivity, especially to cold, is common for a few days following a restoration. Usually, the deeper the cavity, the more sensitive the tooth may be. If you have any discomfort when biting or cold sensitivity for more than a few days, please call Dr. Grafman.
● If the discomfort gets worse in the several days after the onlays was bonded, please call our office.
DO NOT WAIT FOR IT TO GO AWAY!
● The gum tissue could have been irritated during the procedure and may be sore for a few days together with the injection site.
The life of your onlay restoration is directly related to how well you clean and care for it.
